Lord Kitchener's great services to the Nation both prior to and after the outbreak of war have now received fitting recognition in the latest honour bestowed on him - Knighthood of the Most Noble Order of the Garter. He was created Baron Kitchener at the close of Soudan Campaign in 1898 : in 1902, as Commander-in-Chief in South Africa, he brought the South African War to a successful close, and received a Viscounty and the thanks of Parliament. During this present campaign he has created a huge Army, equipped it, and made it ready for the Field.
