For Sale is a Full Page Print from the Illustrated London News March 14th 1896, called "The Ashanti Expedition : The Fall of a Fetish," Showing An Incident in the destruction of one of the sacred groves of Ashanti. The trees of the grove were blown down by the Engineers after the following fashion. Five holes were bored into a tree and were charged with guncotton. The bugles then sounded the alarm, and, the menhaving withdrawn to a safe distance, the charges were exploded by means of electricity. The great tree then fell, cut through as cleanly as though by a Knife. The size of many of these trees may be estimated by the fact that most of their branches had to be severed by the same means after the trunk had been felled.
