The Ancient Art of Carpet-Weaving. 1907

For Sale is a Full Page taken from "The Sphere," February 2nd, 1907, showing a Photograph of "The Ancient Art of Carpet-Weaving as carried on in Modern Algeria."

This picture is very interesting in that it recalls the oriental origin of carpet-weaving. The art probably began in Egypt, and it has been known for a very long time in Persia, India, Turkey, and North Africa. These old carpets are still woven on rude, simple looms like the one shown here by knotting tufts of woollen yarn on the warp threads across the width of the carpet and firmly binding the rows of these tufts by the welt.
