For Sale is a Full Page taken from "The Sphere," February 9th, 1907, showing a Drawing by Fred Pegram, called "The Noble Art of Self-Defence," drawn at the National Sporting Club.
Some very interesting Boxing was witnessed at the National Sporting Club last week. Mr. Pegram here presents the novices' trial. An expert says that brevity was the order-indeed, the men went to wotk in a way that lightened considerably the labours of the referee. The navy as well as the army was represented, but the honours so far appear to rest with a civilian, W. Barton of Earlsfield. Barton, one of the smallest men of those engaged, is "a perfect terrier in his way, saying that he spars in the orthodox manner, and win or lose he is sure to give his opponent a good deal of trouble."
