One of the most remarkable incidents at the Franco-British Exhibition are the Dancers from Senegal, the great French colony (of 200,000 square miles) in West Africa. The French have long been associated with Senegal, for they first made its acquaintance as early as 1637. The dances given by the natives at Shepherd's Bush are very weird. The most extraordinary thing is that the baby sleeps peacefully all the time its mother is gyrating.
