This picture illustrates the scene in "Monsieur Beaucaire" in which Lady Mary Carlyle (Miss Grace Lane) begs Beaucaire (Mr. Lewis Waller), who is really the Duke of Orleans in disguise, to give the lie to his critics in the Pump Room of Bath, who declare that he is merely a barber, for the young prince has crossed the Channel in that capacity in the train of the French ambassador so as to escape marriage with an unwelcome fiancee.
