May 6- News of the King's Death at Piccadilly Circus. (King Edward VII. )

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Graphic, May 14th, 1910," showing a Drawing by Arthur Garratt called "May 6.- The News of the King's Death at Piccadilly Circus." (King Edward VII.)

The news that the King was dead quickly spread over London, although newspapers containing the news were difficult to get.  The sense of tragedy contrasted strangely with the air of gaiety which marks this part of London.


Reverse side shows a Photograph for "May 5- Queen Alexandra Hastening Home to the Palace."
The Queen arrived at Victoria Station on the evening of May 5 and owing to the illness of the King was met by the Prince and Princess of Wales with their sons Prince Edward and Prince Albert.  The news of the King's illness had already leaked out and the crowd which had always gathered to greet Her Majesty was unusually sympathetic on this occasion.
