For Sale is a Colour Portrait removed from a 1937 Calendar by "Wiggins, Teape & Alex. Pirie Ltd," showing a painting called "Boy and Rabbit," (In Burlington House, London.) Artist- Sir Henry Raeburn, R.A. Size of Picture- 30.5cm. x 24cm.
Henry Raeburn, born at Stockbridge, Edinburgh, in 1756, was apprenticed to a goldsmith. He went to London about 1778, and later spent two years studying in Rome. Raeburn, who had married a rich wife, returned to Edinburgh in 1787, where he resided for the rest of his life. He died in 1823. The Boy in this picture is a portrait of the Artist's step-grandson, who was deaf and dumb.
