Size of Picture- 30.5cm. x 24cm.

Thomas Lawrence was born in 1769 at Bristol, and came to London in 1787.  He became a full Academician in 1795, and succeeded Benjamin West as President in 1820.  He died in 1830.  He was exceptionally fortunate in the full measure of support that he received from the Court and fashionable circles, and although for some years Lawrence lost favour with the critics. his work is again much sought after by Connoiseurs.  The subject of this portrait was Louisa Georgina, only daughter of Gen. Sir George Murray.  She afterwards became Mrs. Boyce, and died as recently as 1891.
