   a & b- Miss Violet Lloyd, the well-known comic opera artist, who was recently playing so attractively as Mistigrette in "Madame Sherry."
      c- Miss Dorothy Drake, who was lately giving a skilful representation of an Irish peasant girl in "Love in a Cottage," at Terry's Theatre.
      d- Miss Olive Morrell, light opera artist.

   a- His Excellency (Mr. H. B. Irving), on learning that his A.D.C., his secretary, his butler, and the sentry have, like himself, suddenly fallen in love. "The is very remarkable.  Midsummer madness is clearly in the air."
   b- Baverstock (Mr. Dion Boucicault) proposing to Ethel :  "I insist on your hearing me.  It is your duty, as a beautiful and good woman, to listen to any proposal that may be going."
   c- His Excellency, entering Government House, is amazed to find that his lady guests have erected a barricade in fear that the natives-who are believed to be rebelling against a new law prohibiting bigamy- shall attack them.  Although embarrassed by this manoeuvre of his military allies, the ladies, the infatuated governor seizes the occasion a moment later to propose to one of them- Ethel- from his elevated and precarious position.
