For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Graphic, January 22nd, 1916," showing a Photograph of "Gunners Prepared to Face the Gas :  French Artillerymen Wearing Masks and Helmets."

The clouds of asphyxiating gases sometimes pass the first and even the second lines of trenches, and so the gunners, though relatively far from the battlefront, are not always safe from the fumes.  The French artillerymen, like their brothers in the trenches, have, therefore, been provided with masks.
