Golf Clubs and Golfers : The Woodbridge Golf Club. 1934.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Tatler, February 28th, 194," called "Golf Clubs and Golfers," showing Comic Drawings by "Mel" for "The Woodbridge Golf Clubs.
 The delightful course of the Woodbridge Golf Club, Suffolk, was first started in 1893 when Major J. E. W. Howey, an all-round sportsman, first had the idea of laying out a course on Bromeswell Heath, a couple of miles from Woodbridge. Davie Grant, the old Scottish professional, was brought down from Scotland to "Spy out the land."  His opinion of the heath-land was :  "Ye've as fine turf here as anywhere in Scotland." Nine holes only were planned at first, but later the full eighteen holes were made, and now it is undoubtedly a really beautiful course of close- knit turf, fringed with gorse and heather and as dry as a bone.  In the above group of club celebrities "Mel" has caught their vice-president, Lord Cranworth, in the peculiar way of putting for which he is noted.  The membership consists of about 340 men and 184 ladies.
