Our illustrations are of the last scene of the play, in which the prodigal son, Richard, is brought to be hung as a rebel to King GGeorge at the American town of Websterbridge in the year 1777.   Richard has, in Sydney Carton fashion, taken the place of the husband of the heroine, but, unlike Dickens's hero, is snatched from death as the clock strikes the hour of execution, and takes lunch instead with the English General.
