   a- Miss Lena Ashwell as Mrs. Wycherley (wjo is living apart from her entirely objectionable husband) receiving a visit from her mother-in-law, Lady Wycherley (Miss Frances Ivor).  Lady Wycherley's object is to warn, in a wordy homily, her wearied listener, Irene, against the attentions of the young Harry Chesterton to her.  

   b- Irene's friends (represented by Miss Gertrude Scott, Miss Christine Silver, and Miss Nannie Bennett) about to leave her after discussing her painful matrimonial position.
