This race was contested by the United States challenger Dixie and by three British defenders, Daimler 1. and Daimler II. and Flying Fish.  the circular course had to be covered five times for a total distance of thirty-five knots, and the challenger bore off the trophy by finishing about a mile ahead of Daimler II.
