   1- Major Claffenden grumbles at his daughters, Victoria and Gail, for their twentieth-century notions of women's emancipation.  He does not suspect, however, that they are revolutionary enough to be on the brink of running away to put into practice their newly-found theories of experimental marriages.
   2- Gail and her ingenuous fiance, Peter, at the house of the artist, Max Norton, where they have taken refuge on their runaway sans ceremonie marriage.  Max and Gail have fallen in love at first sight, and the stock of Peter Simple has rapidly fallen.
   3- The return of the runaway hopefuls in the middle of the night, where they had the wrathful Major awaiting them.  The result is a breakdown of the experimental marriage theory and an immediate rush for the legal union.  The artist captures his Gail, Christopher his Victoria, while Peter Simple is squeezed out between the more potent spirits.
