This club, whose pedigreedates back to 1891, was originally seated on a field known as Buck Hill Farm about a mile from the centre of Bedford Town and was only a nine-hole-course with a limitedmembership of 150 ladies included.  Its progenitors were Mr. J. S. Phillpotts, the Rev. K. V. Macdona, Mr. Buck, Mr. C. H. Smith, Mr. Guy Pym, and Mr. J. B. Forsyth.  After four years the lease ran out and a new theatre of war had to be found.  Luckily this was available on the Bromham Road-the present head-quarters, about four miles out of Bedford-90 acres of it but lacking any narural features.  So then Tom Dunn was co-opted and he laid out, eventually, the excellent eighteen-hole course over which members play to-day.  In 1923 when their lease ran out they got a twenty-one-year renewal, and did even better than this as they acquired an extra 12 acres.  "Mel's" excellent little gallery says almost all the rest that is needful.
