With perfect weather and under a brilliant sun, this year's Grand National was perhaps the most interesting of recent years.  The attendance was very heavy, and Society generally was prominently represented, among distinguished visitors being Prince Arthur of Connaught, and Lord Derby with a large party from Knowsley.  The race was somewhat extraordinary as, despite the large number of entries, only four completed the course.  Glenside, the winner, is the property of Mr. Bibby, the well-known Liverpool shipowner, whose success was decidedly popular.  
The photographs show Glenside being led in ;  above are seen , on the right, the winner passing the post, and, on the left, the second and third (Rathnally and Shady Girl) finishing the course ; below is seen Glenside (on the right) at the Canal turn.
