Great Schools in Sport. No. 15- Winchester. Part 1. By E, W. Swanton. 1934.

For Sale are Three Pages removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, December 14th, 1934," showing an Article written by E. W. Swanton, together with the Following Photographs, called "Great Schools in Sport.  No. 15- Winchester.  Part 1."

   1- The Chapel :  The chapel cloisters, quadrangle and other buildings of the 14th century still form the nucleus of the present school.

   2- Winchester :  A glimpse of the chapel through a cloister window.  Winchester has some of the finest school architecture to be found anywhere in England.

   3- Gatehouse :  Chamber Court, and Winchester Cathedral, as seen from the school chapel.  there is surely no English city to compare, architecturally, with the beauty of Winchester.

   4- The Chantry :  The little chapel of fifteenth-century origin.  This inique view is taken from the college chapel roof.

   5- A Late 17th - Century Interior :   It is known that there was a monastic school at Winchester in very early times, but the present college dates  from 1382 and the original buildings were completed in 1395.

   7- From Meads :  A view of school and the chapel, with an undress parade of the O. T. C. in the foreground.

   8- J. L. Guise :  Oxford and Middlesex. At Winchester, Guise's great feat was to score 278 against Eton in 1921. In fifteen innings he made nearly nine hundred runs and took 27 wickets. (Portrait)

   9- P. G. T. Kingsley :  the youngest of the line of Winchester cricket captains at Oxford.  Kingsley is the only Wykehamist who ever played five times against Eton. He was twice captain of Lord's.  (Portrait).

  10- J. R. Mason :  The Gentlemen and Kent.  A batsman of the upstanding classical school, especially strong on the offside, a fast - medium paced bowler, and a truly great slip-fielder.  (Portrait).

  11- D. R. Jardine :  The former England captain is here allowing himself the liberty, unusual wit him in first - class matches, of a full-blooded leg-hit.  In 1919 Jardine led an excellent side, which, is the consumation of Wykehamical ambition on the cricket field.
