"Three Sisters," at the Queen's Theatre. 1938.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, February 11th, 1938," called "Triumph for Michel St. Denis," showing the Following Three Photographs from a Superb Production of Tchehov's "Three Sisters," at the Queen's Theatre.

   a- the Hopelessness of Life :  Irina (Peggy Ashcroft) yearning for Moscow, Olya  (Gwen Ffrangcon-Davies) yearning for youth, and Masha (Carol Goodner) yearning for love, are dominated by the self-complacent Natasha (Angela Baddeley), behind.

   b- Study in Exhaustion :  waiting for news of the fire, one of the dew pieces of action  (and that unseen)  in this passive but none the less gripping tragedy.  Behind are Frederick Lloyd as the benign but bibulous Ivan Tehebutykin and John Gielgud as Vershinin.  In front of: Michael Redgrave as Tusenbach,  Peggy Ashcroft as Irina, and Leon Quartermaine as Kuligan.

   c-  In Tchebutykin's House :  This scene is typical of the period in which this exquisitely sensitive play is laid, and gives an idea of the astonishing reality of the mis en scene.  So unselflishly do the company act together that praise is due to them as a whole, without selecting an individual.  Seated is Vershinin (John Gielgud) ; behind (on right) is Glen Byam Shaw as the morose and self-repressed Solyony.

Condition is Very Good.
