Golf Lessons from the Masters : Approaching and Putting. 1932.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, April 30th, 1932," showing the Following 9 Photographs called "Golf Lessons from the Masters :  Approaching and Putting."

   1- Tom Green has drawn up the Head of his Club, imparting top Spin to his Put.
   2- Tom Fernie keeps his head down-perhaps a moment too long, an uncommon fault but not unknown.
   3- Left Elbow well forward :  T. G. Renouf plays a perfect Put with his Cleek.
   4- Good body action, but A. F. Kettley has turned his right hand over.
   5- Perfect Approaching :  Model body action and position of hands by Ernest Whitcombe.
   6- Feet firmly placed, but E. Ray has drawn his hands into the body after his shot.
   7- A typical Ted Ray scoop :  A. H. Padgham imitates the old master.
   8- S. A. Easterbrook has a perfectly straight right arm at the end of this approach shot.
   9- Harry Vardon caught unawares letting go with his left hand.

Some useful hints and timely warnings are contained in these pictures of some of our leading professionals taking part in the  recent £300 short-course championship played on the approaching-and-putting course in the grounds of the Palace Hotel, at Torquay.
The competition was won by the very young W. T. Branch, who averaged eleven under threes for the seventy-two holes.  T. G. Renouf, C. A. Whitcombe (the holder) and A. C. Kinch tied as runners-up, the first-named winning the play-off, which was as it should be, since he had played consistently better throughout the meeting than anybody else, except Branch.  Renouf set up a new record for the course with a 21 for the nine holes and A. Matthews had one remarkable round in which his score of 54 consisted of an unbroken sequence of eighteen threes.  Altogether 2,232 tee shots were played during the meeting by these famous professionals, but only one found the hole and that was hit by Tom Barber.
