   2- Steve Donoghue streaks home unchallenged on Sirene :  Mr. F. O. Bezner's six-year-old Mare winning the Kingswood Plate.

In a welter of mud and rain, the City and Suburban was won the other day by Mrs. C. Jones's Clogheen, who, by keeping in front practically the whole of the way, at least escaped having clots of mud thrown into his and his Jockey's eyes by horses in front during the journey.  Clogheen, like so many recent winners, started at an outside price,  carrying 7st.  4lb.  Mrs. Jones is the wife of a starting-price bookmaker in Monmouthshire.  Two days earlier the Great Metropolitan had been won by two bookmakers in partnership, while another owner of the same profession won this year's Grand National.  Truly the gentlemen of the ring are getting it both ways of late-both in bets and in stakes.
