   d- The British Amateur Champion Married at Princes Row Register Office :  Mr. E. Martin Smith and Mrs. Joan Surtees.

A. H. Padgham (Royal Ashdown Forest) and A. J. Lacey (Selsdon Park) beat Henry Cotton (Langley Park) and S. Jones (Ifield) in a 36-holes four-ball match on the Ifield Club's course by two and one.  During the match Lacey made a new record for the course with a 67.  The British Amateur champion, Mr. Eric Martin Smith, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. Everard Martin Smith, was married the other day at Princes Row Register Office to Mrs. Joan Surtees, elder daughter of Major Siward Surtees amd Mrs. Rufus Parry.  The bridegroom's father was a semi-finalist in the Amateur championship in 1914, and his mother was formerly a Miss Hambro, whose brother, Mr. Angus Hambro, is chairman of the Rules of Golf Committee.  The bride is a granddaughter of Robert Surtees Smith, creator of Jorrocks.
