Abbot's Worthy runs 4 Miles at Newbury - And Wins the Last one. 1932.

Including the Mile which all the horses have to cover in going from Paddock to Post for the Spring cup at Newbury, Mr. V. T. Thompson's Abbot's Worthy ran four miles in all in that race last Saturday.  While people in the Stands were awaiting the "off," that son of Abbot's Trace was seen to be approaching the Stands- without the Jockey. After continuing round the bend he turned back to the Paddock and allowed himself to be caught.   It was just after that that the Starter's car, containing Gordon Richards, who had been thrown at the start, was seen to be approaching.  The Jockey changed from the Car to Abbots Worthy's back, rode down to the start again and soon afterwards reappeared to win the race.  Abbotttt's Worthy's starting price was 8 to 1, but before his little pleasure excursion had damped his supporters' ardour he had been nearly favourite.
