   a- Yorkshire Fielding on the Angel Ground, Tonbridge :  Kent at Home to the County Champions in the first of their Cricket Weeks.

   b- Essex Beaten at the Oval :  J. O'Connor Brilliiantly caught by P. G. H. Fender (Surrey) Wide in the Slips with the Left Hand.

   c- A New Fast Medium Bowler in First-Class Cricket :  J. E. Merrall Bowling for Surrey against the Essex Batsmen at the Oval.

Kent opened the first of their Cricket weeks with the Match against Yorkshire, the county champions, at Tonbridge and were beaten by their visitors by four wickets. On the same day, Essex, who had lost to Surrey the week before, were the visitors at the Oval.  Surrey, who won by nine wickets, fielded a new fast bowler, J. E. Merrall, who has had a good deal of success with their second eleven and is well known in London club cricket.  The change in the weather had its effect on the gates and tha Angel ground at Tonbridge was filled on the opening day, while the biggest crowd of the season so far came to the Oval to see the first stage of the Essex Match.
