The final of the Open Amateur championship at Muirfield between John de Forest and eric Fiddian was played in deplorable weather, but this did not keep the match from lasting nearly six and a half hours for the 35 holes.  The new champion is a slow player, hesitating before his club is drawn back, and the spectators followed the pair hour after hour, getting wetter and wetter, still as far as de Forest in concerned, "handsome is, etc."
