The Biter Bitten : Or, My Deal with the Parson. 1905.

For Sale is a Full Page removed from "The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News," July 8th, 1905, showing the Following Eleven Engraved Drawings telling a story called  "The Biter Bitten ; or,  My Deal with the Parson."

   1- My cob "Peter" was getting on in years, or for some time had been stumbling rather badly.  One day he came down. crash.
   2- Fortunately no damage was done.  I decided at once that he should break his Knees in other hands.
   3- Has the rector of a neighbouring parish owned a rather smart cob.  I suggested an exchange. He fell in with the idea at once mine being the quieter nag would suit him better - he thought.
   4- He appeared to like "Peter",  admired his tail immensely and enquired the value of him.  I boldly mentioned thirty pounds "oh yes indeed, very cheap !" he said.
   5- His animal "Billy" was a good mover, and when the owner priced him at £45. the valuation appeared reasonable.
   6- Accordingly on this basis the 'swop' was arranged.  The parson's saddle was transfered to "Peter's`'  ancient back& £15 in gold from my pocket.
   7- I felt I had rather done the old chap & that I ought to warn him about "Peter's" stumbling.  "Oh dont mention it" he exclaimed "you'll find "Billy" has a similar failing.
   8- "You must'nt mind Billy's cough, for it's chronic, but you'll soon grow accustomed to it.  good morning." he said.
  9- He had not gone a hundred yards before he came trotting back. "Hi ! Hi !" he shouted.
  10- "You must on no account drive "Billy" during hot weather.  Has fits - staggers !  Good morning !."
  11- He stopped again to advise me on the treatment of "Billy's" diseased feet.  but I waited to hear no more !.

Condition is Very Good.
