   a- The return of the husband and father, Hilary Fairfield, after his escape, when suddenly restored to reason, from a lunatic asylum.  His daughter Sydney, of whose existence he is ignorant, is about to meet him.
   b- Hilary claims Margaret, his wife.   during his detension in an Asylum she has divorced him (under a new law) as she wishes to marry Gray Meredith.
   c- The daughter Sydney, with her lover, Kit Pumphrey, whom she bravely "Jilts" on learning that there is insanity in her family.
   d- The closing scene of the play.  Hilary's wife Margaret.  with the connivance of Sydney, has eloped with Gray Meredith,  and the girl is here seen comforting her "Nervy." helpless father  by saying that she will never marry, but will always be his companion.  Meantime her frigid aunt Hester is seen heaping abuse on her and her mother as callous self-seekers who throw over the men who love them.
