Opening of Imperial Parliament. 1905

The King opened the sixth session of the present Parliament with the full ceremony of state on Tuesday. The weather was dry and fairly bright.  Great numbers of people turned out in the streets to watch the state procession from Buckingham Palace.  The King, who wore the uniform of a field-marshal, read the speech, a lengthy document, in a clear and resonant voice, and in conclusion their Majesties hand in hand left the Chamber.  The Queen wore a gown of dark material, a broad line of scintillating brilliants running down the centre from the corsage to the hem.  The ermine cloak, flung back from the shoulders, revealed a great cluster of precious stones, while on her head rested a deep coronet of gems.
