The Red Mass, which the Roman Catholic members of the Bar have been in the habit of attending, was celebrated, probably for the last time, in the church of SS. Anselm and Cecilia (otherwise known as the Sardinian Chapel) in Lincoln's Inn Fields on October 24.  The chapel, which was originally the place of worship for the Sardinian Ambassador, was burned by the Gordon rioters and is now to be swept away by the Strand to Holborn improvement scheme.  The central figure of the ceremony last week was Cardinal Vaughan, and among those present were Lord Justice Mathew and Mr. Justice Walton.  After the demolition of the chapel, the Red Mass will be celebrated in the new Roman Catholic Cathedral which is towering over Westminster.
